Wanted to check the timing on the motor and after talking to Jess it sounds like I'll need to pull the clutch cover and check the gears. Thanks Wayne for posting the photo of what allen bolts need to be taken off.

Well Jess and I talked again this evening and he was able to walk me through sorting out the timing issue! The setting is 8.5ish now. Thanks so much for taking the time to give me a follow-up call Jess! Now I need to figure out what happened to the plugs for these..

One is probably for missing and defunct vacuum switch without looking at the diagram

The collective knowledge of the forum and advice from you and other folks here has been invaluable. Thank you all!
There's still a lot to do before it's street ready.

Congratulations Don. That's a great sense of achievement for you when it fire up with no horrible rattle or scrapes . keep it well oiled with pre mix until you are happy the oil pump is working correctly . Also keep a eye on the coolant , make sure its circulating and not getting too hot with a air lock or scaled up rad.

Thanks Rog, the rad is free flowing when I changed out coolant and I think I burped the thing properly. Got the premix in the fuel.

Finished the instrument panel today. Decided to use the cover with the RE5 Oil even though it's a bit roached. Gonna be along time before I can re-chrome and re-paint the bike anyways. One photo is the cover flipped up, the other it's down. Having issues with the gas cap not venting which blew a gasket in the petcock. It was a bit exciting getting pressurized fuel spewing on my pants when I was trying to figure out why the petcock had a leak. Parts to take care of this issue are on the way.

The clear lens came out real neat. That is a very innovative idea.
I'm going out on a limb here and suspect nobody else has an RE oil, we'll see.

Curious to see if anyone else speaks up about having that too. Rebuilt one of the break calipers this evening one to go. That thing was nasty and full of gunk after sitting so long but it cleaned up nicely. The brake pads are barely worn and the caliper parts actually didn't look too bad.
The parts to repair the petcock made it in and I'll get them installed the next day or so.
