Greetings board.............thanks for the compliments on my bike.
I am the builder/owner of the blue bike that suzsmokeyallan posted a pic of up above.
Her name is 'Bluebabes' and she has been on the road for about 3 years since that picture.
Yes...that is a SU carb....a 38 mm version of the HIF model. I got tired of trying to adjust out the "flat spot" of the stock Mikuni ( CIV carbs don't have that problem). The engine butterfly is tied in parallel with the carb's butterfly. I use only the pull cable with a spring return for the carb (cable set up is a breeze). The engine butterfly was left as push/pull. I am getting ready to try a 1 1/2" Zenith Stromberg next month (an older version without the smog junk on it. I cobbled up a new adapter plate for that one
The paint is a Dodge Pick-up blue. The silver stripes on the tank were painted on ( a Dodge color too). The stripes on the top of the tank were eliminated because i think that they look bu_ _ ugly.
All the engine/trans covers were removed and polished on both sides. Lots of sanding (400-600 grit wet) then polished on my big Harbor Freight buffing wheel using white aluminum buffing compound.
No.....there are no show trophies.........she was built as a rider. I don't build hangar queens. I drive her to our local Hot Rod Show on Saturday nights and she gets plenty of attention that way (except from the Harley riders who haven't realized that Bluebabes is not a Harley)
