Hello All,
My horn has never worked on my 75 RE-5. Some years ago I bought from Sam or Jess, probably Jess, a new horn. It's just there for show now, a pretty chrome thing. Finally I want to get it working. I took off the tank and am looking around for a wire or something that I can hook my volt meter to to see if the horn button works but I don't see anything. What should I be looking for? I do see a couple of connectors that don't seem to connect to anywhere.
Thanks!
Dave P

I just checked the wiring diagram. Orange and Green wires. I do see orange and green wires with there own connectors. I'll get the VOM out.

Test the horn by itself with two jumper wires from the battery to the horn terminals. At least you will be able to rule out the horn nit working. Jeff

I worded my first message poorly, even by my standards. It's not that my horn never worked, it was originally missing and I did not have any wires dangling. I took off the tank. Found the orange and green wires, extended them and hooked them up to the newish horn that I got several years ago, AND cleaned the horn button internals from corrosion and now all is well. Not the bithin' truck horn that I'd like but I have a horn!

Aah yes, the mid '70's Japanese horn.
I bought a GSX1100 new in early 1981. I was gobsmacked by the change from the RE's, GT's, GL's and Z's of the mid '70's.
It was the first Jap bike I owned where the headlight lit up more than just the front mudguard, first Jap bike that you didn't have to instantly throw away the original tyres and handlebars before you rode it. First Jap bike where I could actually feel the rear wheel riding up and down over bumps and not skipping left and right over any imperfection in the road, first where the brakes worked wet or dry and first Jap bike where the horn could actually be heard.
If your RE horn is an asthmatic "meeeep" only loud enough for the bugs in the radiator to hear, then I reckon it's as close to original as it gets.
Cheers,
