Hi all,
On the back of the air intake black box on the battery side there is an aluminium box with a place to connect a hose. Can someone tell me what this is for and is there a hose that actually connects there? The only hose in the area comes from the radiator overflow and I am sure that does not connect there.
Thanks
Allan

Pic? What I have in mind is the connection for the crankcase vent but you threw me off with the "aluminium box".

Oh OK, yeah that's the hose for the crankcase vent.

Thanks guys but it is on the other side on the bottom. I am aware of the crankcase vent.

Are you referring to the battery hold down plate with the battery vent strap that is not used?

The metal piece that bolts the filter to the frame on the battery side extends down the filter between the two rubber vents and has a box with a hose connection. In the last picture, if you turn the filter over it is at the bottom between the vents. I don't imagine it is used for venting the battery but I need to know if I am missing something before I reassemble everything.

I'm a bit lost too. Honestly, a picture would be the only way. If you're having problems posting a photo, email it to me at andysumm at hotmail.com and I'll post it for you.

After I looked at an earlier bike I had the ah-ha moment.

Allan is right. I looked at a mid 12000VIN bike and look at the port! It is hard to see . Thanks Allan for the question. Just another production change the factory and its suppliers did. I would imagine the port on the back would be dirty air, Maybe as Zack says "over engineered" So to finally answer your question, it is not used but we can speculate what for. Timpa136

Thanks to everyone for their input. I feel better knowing I did not pull it off and lose it somewhere. I will try to get a better picture so people can see it.

Here's a clear shot. Sorry I didn't help with your question Allen but I was wracking my brains trying to figure out what vent you were talking about. I forgot all about them, the airbox below is one of mine. Seeing your airbox pic in the frame made me remember, I think both my bikes have got them.

Thanks Wayne,
That is exactly what I am talking about. Just to confirm, if it doesn't do anything should I block it?
