Hi All, Copy of a post By Wayne Tolson from the Norton Rotary Club,
It may be worth checking that current day Castrol Classic 20/50 GTX is made to the same spec as the GTX reccomended for the RE5 in 1975 and if anyone is using Silkolene they may want to check they are using the correct grade Silcoline Classic T2 .
Regards Stuart.
"I was reading a rotary article today and it reminded people new to rotarys may be caught out as i nearly was, if i had not been a member of the Roc
i was wanting a best price for oil for my rotarys and at stafford last year, the silcoline stand offerd me comp 2 oil. I pointed out comp 2 pro was no longer the oil to use in a rotary as they had changed the propertys of the oil. The oil we need is Classic T2 Premix, its the old Comp 2 premix.
He did not belive me till he got the book out, Classic T2 is the oil for rotarys and it even says so on the tin. I was not impressed that they did not know there own products they were selling.
The use of the new comp 2 no longer been sutable was found out the hard way in the by a couple of recked engines, One of the prominent Norton road engine builders checked the Comp 2 pro deitailed spec sheet and challenged Silcoline . At this time Silkoline then disclosed the operating temprature propertys had change in the new oil, they then remanufactured the old comp 2 as classic T2 for use in our rotarys.
Silcoline Classic T2 Sutable for Rotarys, and is the correct oil from this manufacturer.
Its also worth mentioning Shell Rotela 40 is the other main alternativem a hell of a lot cheaper but not as good protecting your internals when your bike is the standing in your Damp or unheated garrarge as the Silcoline oil."

If you Intend to buy or have newly bought a rotary its worth reading through the aricles on the Roc forum
I thought this was worth mentioning as we have people on hear who are looking to get into rotarys and its a very imprtant issue not widley known outside the ROC
