Hi Andy, I have tried degassing the resin in a vacuum chamber but the stuff I am using has a very short pot life and starts to go off quickly If I use the chamber its going off when it comes out. The biggest problem is the interior shape, the bullseye can retain a lot of bubbles if the mould is not filled correctly, even holds them when it is filled correctly, the pressure chamber idead is good but my mould is a good size and would need a big pressure chamber. I am still learning and hope that as time goes I can improve my technique to get a slightly better casting and a few less bubbles.
Regards Stuart.

Investigating the pressure casting Andy, thanks for reminding me, concentrating on vacuum technique. Have one listed on ebay.
Regards Stuart.

Bl00dy good job. Hope they sell ok on ebay- I've been wondering if this resin casting might be an option to cast the instrument panel as a whole complete with lens... but that's for another day!
If I decide to have a go in the future I'd probably look at vacuuming the resin mix and pressure casting. Seems to be the way a few of them do it.

Do you have an idea what market the RE5 was for with clear turn signal lens? Is it in Kilometers and have the non US bars, any other differences? Timpa136

Tim,
Just my 2 cents...
I don't believe clear lenses were ever available from the factory. There were some very good reproductions made many years ago, in the early 80's. Once the mold is made, it is very easy to crank them out in any type of plastic you want.
I have a couple cases of clear flip up covers, and silver opaque covers that Sam had made years ago.
Now that I own the mold(expensive part)... I can make them in any color I want.
Best,

Have a couple of early lenses on ebay, have some air bubbles in the bulls eye part and very small bubbles in the body of the casting, were made before I used the presure casting method, these are the last of my "seconds" for now but are still a very close colour match and once fitted will look like originals.

Just a quick update on the spherical indicator lenses and bodies, Just have to machine the stump off the bottom, if there is not a big hole there then that's it 1 down 3 to go. Took me a year and third attempt to get this far so the market is not going to be flooded with replicas. Regards Stuart.

Just start with originals and make a blinker along with lens ?
You're the ultimate shed guy. I'm in awe (truly !)
