Havent tried anything yet motor is free and moving about 3 weeks ago when purchased but since then have been even to scared to wind over with the kickstarter just incase any further damage could be caused
Ive had a mans look around this page but only have found referernce to turn bu hand and pouring oil down the sparkplug hole for 5 days prior
if anyone has a link to the entire document or even if we can start another page dedicated to long standing motors and how best to wake them up
Thanking everyone in advance for their contributions and comments
Dave

I'm far from the expert around here, since I've only had my bike for a couple of months. However, mine had been sitting for a number of years with what was assumed to have stuck apex seals. The advice I received was to remove the exhaust manifold, rotate the engine by hand via the kick starter, spray some penetrating fluid (I used PB Blaster) onto the apex seal as it passes the exhaust port. Do this to all three, let sit over night or longer. Gently give the seals a light prod with a wooden dowel to free them up. Repeat the process if they won't free first time. By doing this you will then have piece of mind that the seals are free and working as they should be. The penetrating fluid will also act as a lubricant while you do this. Squirt a little more down the plug hole too. Rotate the engine with the kick starter, spark plug out for a while to get things covered with the lube. Remove carb and at least check the bowl for crud. There are a few threads on how to properly clean and setup the carb. It's often recommended to use a premix of 50:1 fuel in the petrol tank for the first run, and until a flow check of the oil pump has been carried out. Also check the condition of the air filter element before first start as theses do turn to dust with age. Replace if needed. I bought a Pipercross filter off ebay since NOS iarent available.

Good advise. Go slowly. Lots of oil, turn rotor 1/3 turn after a few days to a week, repeat. You can see the wiper seals through the exhaust port. Push on them to make sure they are moving. Don't worry if it does not run perfect when you finally do start it, most of the parts get reacquainted after some miles. Air cleaner service a must. Clean out gas tank. Check for dried up cracked rubber hoses. Drain, inspect, refill coolant. Others will weigh in I am sure. Jeff

Excellent advise Dave,
I read in your other post you have a new battery and that is also very important to set up for long battery life.
The Yuasa shipped dry, should have a set up procedure, follow it closely. You might need to top it off out of the bike more than once if the bike doesn't start right away.
