Now that Rotary Recycle is no longer available as a supplier of parts, it means that RE5 owners now must be more resourceful when it comes to sourcing parts for their bikes. With this in mind, I thought it would be a good idea for anyone to post here if they know of parts which are still available off the shelf, or of a substitute that can be utilized as is or modified for our purpose, or if someone is making a small production run of certain parts?
This is not intended to be an ebay watch thread, as there is already one running.

Ok, so I just started this thread as I am about to begin the restoration of my first RE5.
I have read somewhere, or been told that there are readily available off the shelf parts available for:
Ignition points (requiring modification) Oil pump non return valve (possibly Yamaha marine part?) Rotor seals (requiring modification)
I will let those much more knowledgable than me to fill in the details of these.
Cheers

Genuine Suzuki oil filters are available to order from dealers, about £40 over here in the UK.

Good idea, I'd like to see resource like this get up and running. Remember that any commonality with the GT750 waterbottle is still available over the counter from Suzuki (caliper kits, spokes, numerous rubber items). Seals and bearings often available over the counter from bearing shops, sometimes mods are needed (oil seal behind the oil pump is, I beleive, no longer made in the original part's thickness so you have to either source an original or machine down the allow "spacer")
The only source I've ever heard about supplying Oil pump non return valves was Rotary Recycle.
Certain types of Mazda seals can be modified to fit but I can't specify the precise models. I know that Sam Costanzo modified Mazda side seals to fit the RE. I believe the tip seals from the early dizzy equipped Mazda's are thick enough to be machined for the RE5 but I think some of our Mazda experts would be needed on that one.
RR was also the only supplier of an electronic ignition specifcally made for the RE5 but there are so many options available there are probably many alternatives if you're willing to put the work in modifying a set.

I had the wrong tach seal in use and a resultant leak. GT-550 tach seal fits well and still available. P/N 34943-11030 $2.41

To my knowledge, there are no points that will work without modification. There are many point sets that will work fine once the plate is drilled, however, the points are not really the issue. CDI boxes are the issue. They are next to impossible to repair and nothing in the world used one exactly the same as the re5.
Rotor seals, Wayne is correct. Mazda side seals can be machined down. I have no knowledge of any replacement apex seals as the re5 are very thick at 5 mm.. Corner seals are the biggest issue and I am again not familiar with any substitute.
I ordered more check valves prior to closing. Again, to my knowledge, there is nothing in the world that cross references to them. They had to be custom made at great cost. There are valves used on other machines that look the same, but they either have a different crack pressure or worse they check the wrong way. They finally came in after we closed. After the first of the year, I will make them available for a limited time to forum members.
I will make a post when I am ready to begin shipping.
I also ordered the parts to assemble 15 electronic ignition units. Again, after the first of the year I hope to begin assembly. I will make them available for a limited time to forum members.
Again, I will make a post when I am ready to ship them.
There are genuinely very few parts still made today that will fit the re5. Most of the parts that are still available through Suzuki are available through various Ebay sellers as there appear to be a few folks that make a living buying at dealer cost and drop shipping to people.
Hope that helps.
Regards

Count me in for an electronic ignition Jess.(contact points not needed afterwards?) and also the check valve (do you need one or two valves on a bike?..maybe a stupid question but I'm a poor mechanic) My friend and co RE5 owner Michel sais he can repair RE5 engines using parts of the NSU RO80 engine.Even with ceramic apex seals.Only this year he allready overhauled six NSU RO80 engines.

Funny that this post was started to come up with new parts sources, but most of the reply is to buy more parts from Jess. As they say, You don't know what you've got till its gone.

Jeff Oh, I knew..............after nearly 15 years of addiction to Rotary Recycle, I knew. All I can say now is thank goodness for the 'net and guys like you and other board members to do what we can.

Sorry,
Was not my intent to hijack the thread...
After the first of the year when I have ignitions and valves ready, I will post a new thread.

Is there a source for buying spares eg apex seals, springs, oil rings etc?

Next year he will start restoring the two RE5 from the 10 we bought together from a collector in Holland .He also gave me a modern sparkplug for the NSU that fits perfectly into the RE5 engine and performs good.
