Yes indeed. My wife doesn't though seeing as I have one in the shed but she doesn't have one in the kitchen!
They're not that bad for cleaning- not the same as a rotowash or similar but not bad. I usually put stuff through once, clean up any stubborn bits by hand then give them a second shot.

Hi Andy. I'm following your thread with great interest. I'm in the middle of a restore and am thinking of stripping my proper unit as although compression is good, she guzzles her way through large quantities of sump oil. Luckily, I managed to get hold of a set of a NOS rotor seal rings which I'm hoping will bring the oil consumption under control. Keep up the good work and keep those pictures coming

Are you able to get some accurate measurements of the thickness of them and post them up on my oil control ring thread? Looks like I'll be making some...

Few photos of reground oil control rings added.
We have also discovered that it would appear that Suzuki used 40mm and 41mm nuts to hold the flywheel on- mine is 40mm and my buddy Steve's is 41mm. Go figure!

Well I think I have all the bits I need now to start putting the motor back together. I've been really busy with work/life so haven't done anything on the bike but I broke my leg yesterday (open air ice skating in Perth of all things!!!) so I'll be hanging around the house for a while. Sounds like an ideal time to set up the workshop bench for a rebuild! See, there is a silver lining to every cloud

Well I was putting the last plate on the motor, retracting the special tool that compresses the seal ring...... PING! I managed to snag one of the rotor side seals whilst I was withdrawing the tool. Snapped an inch off one end.
Luckily the Mazda side seals (from an early 12A) are the same thickness(1mm)- just different depth and length, so I've spent the last hour modifying the Mazda one as a replacement. Just thought some people would get a chuckle out of this!
Jeez, didn't have these problems putting Steve's proper unit back together!

I'm looking forward to seeing (and hearing) the outcome of all your hard work. Its a good job you're in Oz or I'd be pestering you to rebuild one of my proper units

If you pop on a plane with one of your units I'll give you a hand! Oh, and just to be clear, Steve did most of his unit re-assembly- I just came along at the end and helped a bit (Job Supervisor I like to think)... Yes, I can't wait to get mine finished and running again but it will take a while- I have to make a new shaft bushing for the water pump cover, remake the points assembly gear drive key as it's worn and allows slop, retension the primary chain tensioner etc etc. All this with one leg out of action. I predict it will be ready in September or October, just not sure which year yet!

What a super interesting post on a rebuild! I'm about to dismantle an engine myself in the near future, hopefully being able to fix a heavy oil consumption. I have had two RE5 engines, and the dimension of the large flywheel nut is 41mm on both engines.

We need to establish if using the "undersized" o rings [smaller diameter] on this list for the oil control rings could let oil pass into the chamber, I used this list to rebuild mine and have noticed since that you can see with the naked eye they are smaller than Suzuki used,Do we know of other members that have used this size on rebuild ? Just asking !.From your post; these are the best fit afaik:+ = am not buying a pair of jeans !
